How to Make Lipstick at Home: 3 Methods

I love make up. I love lip sticks, lip glosses and everything about make up. I know not all of us can afford to own all these expensive brand names lip sticks. Don’t despair ladies. I am going to give out a few simple recipes of DIY lip sticks so get ready to learn how to make lip stick at home. Let me start with the neutral lip stick as it is easy and cheaper to do. It doesn’t have color as well. All the ingredients will be available in your kitchen cupboard.

Basic-Neutral Lipstick

1/4 cup of beeswax

3 tablespoons of vegetable shortening

2 tablespoon of almond oil

3 tablespoons of cocoa butter

  • Mix all the ingredients in an oven proof container and then heat the mixture on medium in the microwave for two minutes. Let it melt completely.

  •  Pour the melted liquid into a pan lined with foil and greased with a little oil so as not to stick when cooled.

  • When the mixture has cooled, you can cut it into sticks and put those in lipstick containers.
  •  If you want to add a little bit of color you can take a bit of your own colorful lip stick and melt it with the above ingredients.
  • In my own opinion, beeswax bar is so much better than using Vaseline since it is more natural.

Berry-Lip Gloss

1 1/2 tablespoon of almond oil

10 fresh cranberries, strawberries, or raspberries

1 teaspoon of honey

  •  Mix the almond oil and the honey together and then place them in a microwave.

  •  Heat in the microwave or a water until the mixture just begins to boil  or for 2 minutes in the microwave.

  •  Stir well and thoroughly.

  •  Gently mash the berries of your choice.
  •  Let the mixture stand for at about 5 minutes.

  •  Strain the mixture through a sieve to remove all the pieces of the berries.

  •  Stir in the berries and allow the mixture to cool completely. When cool, use a spoon to put the mixture in a clean container.

Vanilla Lip Gloss

1 T of grated beeswax

1 T of coconut oil

1/8 tsp. of vitamin E oil

1/8 tsp. of vanilla extract

  •  Place the beeswax, coconut oil and vitamin E oil in a heatproof container.
  • Heat gently until the wax and oils are thoroughly melted.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and mix well.
  • Pour the mixture into a clean container and allow cooling completely before using.

Cocoa-Chocolate Brown Lipstick

1 teaspoon of beeswax

1 teaspoon of mango butter or Shea butter

1 teaspoon of sweet almond oil

 Cocoa powder

  •  Place the beeswax, mango or Shea butter and almond oil in a heatproof container.
  •  Heat gently until the wax and oils are thoroughly melted.
  • You can also use the microwave.
  • Stir in the cocoa powder and mix well.
  • Pour the mixture into a clean container and allow cooling completely before using the mixture.
  • The mango butter will make the lip stick/balm to smoothly be rolled on.
  • You can find beeswax, butters and oils at craft supply stores near you. The rest of the ingredients will be found in your own house.
  • You can use your own old lip stick container or buy lipstick container from cosmetics suppliers, dollar stores, craft stores and beauty stores. They are being sold from under $5.
  •  Another option you have is to buy them in bulk on-line.

There are more oils containing different scents and colors that one can choose to use. It depends on one’s preference. I am a big sucker for sweet scents. I love everything that smells lovely and I believe a girl could never own a lot of lip glosses and lip sticks.

What To Do Before Appling Lipstick

  • There are a few steps one should go through before applying lip stick.
  •  Keep your lips moisturized so as to make lipstick slide on better.
  •  Apply a lip primer to condition your lips.
  •  Lip primer fills in the lines and decreases your lip wrinkles.
  • Lip primer also makes lipstick glide on smoothly as well as making it last longer.
  • Some people also apply neutral lip liner as a base as their final application after lipstick.

I will have to love and leave you now with these few recipes of how to make your own lipstick at home. I will be back with more glamorous ones.
